Applications to 2023 NEH Summer Research Stipends
Faculty in the Humanities (as defined by NEH) are eligible to apply for NEH Summer Stipends for 2023 with a value of $6,000. Applicants must be nominated by the University and its designated nominating official. For Towson University, the nominating official is Chris J. Chulos, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. The program and its requirements are fully described here, including sample applications in different fields.
Projects generally need to be conceptually quite well developed. There is often some indication of special interest in younger scholars with the suggestion that this award can help pave the way for a later, larger research fellowship. The guidelines suggest short-term awards are seen as most effective for “early-stage research and late-stage writing,” although they may be requested for any point in a project.
Interested faculty should submit a CV and statement of project to Chris Chulos no later than August 22, 2022. The statement should be substantive and specific and at least two to three pages in length. Those chosen as University nominees (maximum of two) will have an opportunity to revise, expand, or polish their statements before the submission deadline of September 21, 2022. Submission will be through grants.gov with the help of OSPR.
Questions may be addressed to Chris Chulos at cchulos@towson.edu.
