TU Health Professions in Australia and New Zealand
Explore cultural diversity, healthcare, and environmental health in Australia and New Zealand during Summer 2023. Spend time in Auckland, Rotura, and Sydney while developing your cultural understanding through immersion and service learning opportunities.
Both Australia and New Zealand offer unique contexts to study health and healthcare systems. Site visits to health care institutions and organizations will deepen your appreciation of what it is to be a health professional. Cross disciplinary seminar discussions, cultural activities, guest lectures, and service learning opportunities will give you a broader perspective on the social components of health and healthcare as you and other future health professionals examine topics related to Aboriginal and Maori culture.
Program highlights include guest lectures and visits to local healthcare providers, a day at the Taronga Zoo, a walking tour of the historic Rocks district in Sydney, and a full day excursion to Waiheke Island including a visit to Piritahi Marae.
Participants will take one of the following course combinations with Prof. Andrea Brace and Prof. Caroline Wood:
1) HLTH 402 Health and Social Welfare Promotion: Health Communication (3 credits) & HLTH 494 Health Travel and Study (3 credits)
