Blacks in Great Britain: From Liverpool to London
Study Black life and culture in the UK in January 2023! Based in Birmingham, one of the largest and most diverse cities in England, participants will explore key sites of Black life throughout the country. Learn about what it means to be “Black” in the UK, trace the history of slavery in Great Britain, and gain an understanding of the little known history of the Black Romans.
The program features guest lectures by local experts, day trips to Liverpool, Bristol, Leeds, and Newcastle and more and overnight excursion to London. Highlights include visits to the International Slavery Museum, the Georgian House Museum, a tour of Brixton, and an excursion to Hadrian’s Wall.
Participants will take SOCI 370 Topics in Sociology (3 credits) with Dr. Jason Freeman.
