Members serving in the AmeriCorps VISTA program serve full time for one-year terms (current position is for July 2022-July 2023). They build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies to help them more effectively generate the commitment of private sector resources, encourage volunteer service at the local level, and empower individuals and communities.
The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member serving at Towson University will address the need of campus community members experiencing food and financial insecurity by the expanding the campus food pantry (Food Share) and creating additional programming and resources. In order to decrease the number of community members experiencing food insecurity, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will create an expansion plan for the food share as well as a training curriculum for volunteers. Additionally, the CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA member will design and implement workshops and educational programs where students at TU would learn about financial and food security, including topics such as: meal planning, food demonstrations, and budgeting that could be utilized in college and after graduation.
