Explore Your Sustainable Transportation Options
As we prepare to head back to campus for the Spring 2022 term, make sure you know your options. Parking and Transportation Services provides a Sustainable Transportation program with benefits!
Who is eligible for the program? – Students, faculty, and staff.
What are the requirements? – Individuals must ride the TU Shuttle, use public transportation, and/or bike/walk instead of purchasing an annual parking permit. Also, individuals may also drive a certified SmartWay Elite vehicle.
To support TU’s sustainability efforts, we provide the Tigers Go Green program. If you currently drive a certified SmartWay Elite Vehicle you may be qualified to get a discounted green permit. That is up to 20% savings off the regular cost of a permit!
Other Sustainable Transportation options include:
- Carpooling program – allows 2-4 people who are driving to and from campus at the same time in one vehicle to associate a single parking permit with multiple vehicles.
- ZipCars – discounted rental cars located on campus.
- Bike Share – rent a bike from Campus Recreation or bring your own.
- MTA Transit Subsidy – students, faculty and staff can receive passes for the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus, light rail, Metro Subway and MARC Train.
- Students can obtain a discounted monthly pass by completing a Charm Pass application. For more information and access to the forms, visit https://www.towson.edu/campus/landmarks/westvillage/ticket-business-office/
- Regular faculty and staff may obtain a sticker that will allow free use of transit services. In order to access transit, regular faculty and staff will be required to present their university ID badges with the sticker affixed to it. Stickers are available from the Office of Human Resources in Admin room 101. Regular status faculty and staff can present their current ID to receive a sticker.
Benefits of Choosing Sustainable Transportation:
- Free Parking Codes – Four free parking codes each term that can be used whenever you need to bring a vehicle to campus.
- Guaranteed Ride Home – Subsidized taxi or car service rides or short-term rentals for when you must leave campus unexpectedly. This service can be used up to four times per calendar year.
