Hackathon: Visualizing and Animating Data in Python

Mathematicians and scientists need to visualize and animate data. This hackathon will teach you how to set up your own Python development environment and use it to develop your own visualizations and animations.

Prerequisites: You should be familiar with basic programming, say in Java, C, or Python. Prior experience in Python is not required. We will begin with “Hello World!”.

Preparation: Please bring a laptop computer (or a friend with a laptop!). To make the best use of your time, please install Python and Anaconda before arrival following the instructions (.pdf) (.docx)

Date: The hackathon will take place on Sunday, December 5 from 1:00 – 5:00.

Help: If you are have trouble installing Python and Anaconda before the hackathon, help will be available in YR 307 on Thursday, December 2 from 1:00 – 2:00.

Place: Still to be determined (in 7800 York Road), based on the number of students who elect to attend. Please register so that we can contact you with the final room choice.
