October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Here’s how you can keep #cybersafe

Cybersecurity is everyone’s job, here are a few quick tips from the TU’s Office of Information Security to help keep you and TU safe:

  • Fight Phishing attacks-report suspicious email. If it looks phishy, it probably is. Report suspicious email by using the “Report Phish” button in Outlook or by forwarding it to phishing@towson.edu. Remember to look for the “External” email warning tag.
  • Keep your equipment secure and up to date. Ensure that your computer, mobile devices, and programs have security patches, antivirus applications and updates installed and running.
  • Use strong passwords. Create long, unique passphrases for all accounts.
  • Think before you click. Make sure you trust the link or website you are about to visit.  Be extra cautious of unexpected emails that contain links or ads and don’t fulfill any unusual requests.
  • Use extra caution when downloading unexpected attachments, especially from individuals outside of TU. Even if an email is from within the university, use caution when opening attachments.
