Benefits News: New USM Life & LTD Insurance Provider Information Coming Soon
The University System of Maryland (USM) has selected MetLife as the new provider for Life Insurance and Long Term Disability (LTD) Insurance effective April 1, 2021. MetLife will replace the existing UNUM Group Life Insurance and LTD Plans. The USM Life and LTD plans offered through MetLife are available to all Regular and Contingent II employees. The transition will take place effective April 1, 2021.
Current UNUM participants will receive communications from USM and MetLife at your home address and your TU work email, detailing the new plans and rates, as well a link to MetLife’s dedicated website for USM employees. There is nothing you need to do to keep your current coverages in force.
Other eligible faculty and staff can expect to receive communication from USM and MetLife to your home address and TU work email with information about the opportunity to enroll online beginning April 1 for new Life Insurance and/or LTD Insurance coverage through MetLife.
The period of April 1- April 30, 2021 will be a limited time opportunity to apply for or increase Optional Life, Dependent Life and LTD coverage with simplified underwriting. The Human Resources Department will provide additional information regarding the special enrollment period as it becomes available. Look for more information to come on April 1.
