Conversation with Clemantine Wamariya, Writer and Human Rights Advocate
Join us on Wednesday, April 7, at 7:00pm via Zoom for a conversation with Clemantine Wamariya about human rights, displacement, migration, and her memoir, The Girl Who Smiled Beads.
Born in 1988 in Kigali, Rwanda, Wamariya is a writer, public speaker, and human rights advocate. As a child, she was displaced by the Rwandan genocide and migrated for six years throughout seven African countries. When she was twelve, she was granted refugee status in the United States. Eventually, she went on to receive her BA in Comparative Literature from Yale University. The Girl Who Smiled Beads, which chronicles her experiences as a genocide survivor and her life as a refugee, was published in 2018 to critical acclaim.
An ASL interpreter will be provided for this event.
