Scam Alert: health-related text scams on the rise

Don’t fall for it! The Office of Information Security (OIS) in the Office of Technology Services (OTS) warns about a current texting scam. 

About the scam
This text scam contains false info about vaccine availability and claims to be from the United Kingdom’s National Health Service. The malicious link asks you to provide personal and financial information. See a PDF example.  

You’ve received a similar or suspicious text message on your cell phone. Now what?   

  • Do not reply to the text. Don’t click on any links or open any attached files. 
  • Forward the text message to 7726 (SPAM) and follow the instructions. 
  • Delete the text message. To help prevent, consider registering your phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. 
  • Rely on official sources for info like official government and reputable health sources.
