Smart energy savings tips for Thanksgiving break
Thanksgiving break is the perfect time to save energy and the environment by reducing our carbon footprints!
Energy usage represents about 50 percent of the university’s carbon emissions and most likely the same at your residence. We will be doing our part to conserve by setting back temperatures in buildings to reduce energy use. Whether you are working or learning on campus or at home, take these actions to help save energy over break:
- POWER OFF all monitors and printers, and log out of all computers. Leave your office PC on to continue to use Remote Desktop remotely.
- UNPLUG cell phone chargers, coffee makers, printers, TVs, stereos and other electrical devices from the wall when not in use.
- Turn off the lights.
- Lock doors and windows.
- Vent hoods should be turned off or fully closed except when they are in use for experiments or material storage purposes.
