Reminder: September 25 security changes for Zoom
As per a recent email from TUPD, and as communicated in a previous TU Today announcement, additional layers of security are being implemented for TU Zoom meetings. This is to help reduce the chance of TU class sessions being Zoom bombed.
Currently, TU students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to log in with Single Sign On (SSO), and all TU Zoom meetings have a Waiting Room enabled by default. These items are not changing.
What’s changing
Starting September 25, you will be required to login through SSO using your TU NetID and password when accessing Zoom with a TU email address. Be sure you’re using a Zoom account associated with your TU NetID. Here’s how to verify. See options and instructions at www.towson.edu/zoom. Please contact the OTS Faculty/Staff Help Center or Student Computing Services if you encounter login issues.
Zoom has delayed their Waiting Room or Passcode (password) requirement, and OTS will communicate when more information is available. It’s strongly recommended that all TU Zoom sessions have a Waiting Room or Passcode now, even before it’s required. You can temporarily turn off these options if necessary (not recommended) in personal meeting rooms.
About the Waiting Room
Using a Waiting Room now allows TU account holders (students, faculty, and staff) to bypass the Waiting Room. Non-TU invitees are held in the Waiting Room, and you’ll need to admit them. If a student/TU attendee is in the Waiting Room, they aren’t logged in with their TU account. They’ll need to logout and log back in securely following these directions.
