Looking for ways to improve the cognitive demand of assessment items while also decreasing the likelihood of academic dishonesty? Two-tiered multiple-choice items (TTMC) add a second component to uncover students’ understanding of concepts resulting in more complex randomization of items that can inhibit academic dishonesty. In this session we will discuss best practices for writing multiple-choice items, the advantages and disadvantages of TTMC items, scoring TTMC items, exemplar items, and we will practice writing items for our content areas.
