Federal Emergency Paid Sick Leave and Expanded Family Medical Leave
The Department of Labor recently published regulations in accordance with the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FFCRA”) that expands the Family Medical Leave Act and provides emergency paid sick leave to employees for certain COVID-19 related reasons.
The Office of Human Resources is providing the following updates and information to assist faculty/staff with navigating the new regulations or other related COVID-19 HR issues:
Paid Leave Enhancements
In response to COVID-19 there have been important paid leave enhancements provided by the FFCRA that will help lessen the financial burden on employees dealing with issues created by the global pandemic. Paid leave enhancements include Emergency Paid Sick Leave and Expanded Paid Family and Medical Leave.
More information on eligibility and how to apply can be found on the OHR leave web page. The form to request Expanded Family and Medical Leave is an automated DocuSign form, which accepts electronic signatures from the employee and supervisor. After the employee submits the form, it is automatically routed to the supervisor via email. The OHR is working to convert the Request for Leave under the FFCRA form as well and it will be available shortly.
Reporting COVID-19
Any employee who has symptoms common to those associated with COVID-19, is under medical care/testing protocol for those symptoms, or has been exposed to someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19, should login to complete this confidential online form and submit to Human Resources to determine appropriate next steps.
