Plastic utensils & straws: recyclable or not?

From Feb. 2 to Mar. 28, TU will compete against universities across the United States in RecycleMania. We’re sharing tips throughout the competition to raise awareness for composting, recycling and waste minimization.

Can you recycle plastic utensils and/or straws?
No, but you might be able to compost them. The utensils and straws at all Towson University dining facilities are compostable and should be disposed of in campus composting bins. Off-campus, utensils and straws are often plastic and cannot be recycled. A good rule of thumb is if the utensil or straw wrapper says #7 PLA or compostable, you can compost it. If not, it should go in the landfill bin.

Try carrying your own reusable utensils, straws, cups etc. to truly reduce waste!
