Last Day to Register for the President’s Inclusive Leadership Institute Special Guest Antony Haynes

The President’s Inclusive Leadership Institute is proud to present a special speaker: Antony Haynes, JD. He will be Speaking about Facial Recognition Bias and Implications within Higher Education and Beyond

The event is Thursday, March 5th from 1 PM to 4 PM at South Campus Pavilion. If you require accommodations please contact oiie@towson.edu.

Higher education has seen a growth in technology usage in almost every educational training venue.  Facial recognition (artificial intelligence-AI) can provide feedback on audience responses during lectures, and could be instrumental with improving campus security.  However, a digital rights organization and college group are campaigning higher education institutions to ban the use of facial recognition technology on their campuses. The New York Times reported that the majority of commercial facial-recognition systems exhibit bias, according to a study released last year from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a federal agency.  Facial recognition algorithms were found to be biased along lines of age, race, and ethnicity. What does this mean for higher education?  What are the implications?  Dr. Antony Haynes will explore the intersectionality of bias and AI during an informative and engaging session.

Light refreshments provided.
