COMING OF AGE: JEWISH YOUTH IN INTERWAR POLAND

Barbara Kirshenblatt-Gimblett is Chief Curator of the Core Exhibition at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and University and Professor Emerita of Performance Studies at New York University.  Dr. Kirshenblatt will present her father Mayer Kirshenblatt’s autobiography, based on his unique recollections in words and in paintings as she recorded for the last forty years of his life.

This illustrated lecture will relate the autobiographies written in the 1930s by youth who had no idea of what the future would hold for them. The talk will explore the role of the youth autobiographies and Mayer’s childhood memories in POLIN Museum’s Core Exhibition and will conclude with a short film about Mayer’s return to his hometown.
