Background Investigations required for New Employees and Volunteers

In compliance with Maryland law, USM policy, and Towson University policy, a background investigation is required for all new regular and contingent faculty and staff.  It is also required for student employees and volunteers that work with minors and vulnerable adult populations.

Regular and contingent faculty and staff may not begin work until they have successfully completed a background investigation.  Student employees and volunteers that work with minors and vulnerable adult populations also may not begin work until they have successfully completed a background investigation.

Departments must plan accordingly to allow ample time to meet internal processing requirements for all employees and volunteers subject to background checks

To promote a safe environment for our students, faculty, and staff and to comply with Maryland law and policy, there are no exceptions to this process.

For more information, please review Towson University Policy 07-01.04 – Background Investigations or contact the OHR at 4-2162.
