Proposed Library Journal Cancellations for FY 21

Cook Library is undertaking a journal subscriptions cancellation project to reduce FY 2021 journal subscription expenditures by approximately $150,000, with cancellations effective January 2021.

Why journal cancellations?  Simply put, publishers increase journal prices an average of 5% – 6% each year.  In addition, the price of e-journal packages increases 4% – 5% each year.  In other words, our spending power decreases yearly.  After only a few years, publisher price increases outpace the savings incurred by prior journal cancellations.

We want your assistance.

The proposed title list along with the opportunity to comment on each title are available on the journal cancellation project website.

Liaison librarians also will host a series of forums about the proposed cancellations over the course of the spring semester. Please watch for announcements about these opportunities or contact your liaison librarian to learn more about the process and to provide feedback.

We appreciate your concerns, and we look forward to sharing more information with you in the coming months.
