Interested in reading, writing or illustrating picture books? Wondering what publishers look for when considering new projects? Join us for a discussion with illustrator Seo Kim (TU faculty- Illustration) and author Kao Kalia Yang as we explore their critically praised new picture book, A Map into the World. Map is the story of a young Hmong girl’s discovery of the changing seasons of a year, and the different seasons of a life. School Library Journal praises its “beautiful, detailed illustrations… rich in color, texture, and emotion” and Publisher’s Weekly calls it “a distinctive story that weaves together threads of family life, community and culture, the natural world, and the power of stories.” Carol Hinz, Editorial Director for Millbrook Press and Carolrhoda Books will also be present to discuss the book and her work as an editor.
Copies of A Map into the World will be available for purchase; a signing by the author and illustrator will follow discussion. Snacks served.
