Update: Retiree Prescription Drug Coverage Program
Faculty and staff who are eligible to retire should be familiar with the most recent information on the state’s retiree prescription drug coverage for Medicare-eligible retirees.
In an effort to ensure every eligible member has the most current information, please refer to the links below.
- September 1, 2019 State of Maryland Department of Budget and Management letter
- Latest DBM update
- Maryland State Retirement Agency Newsletter
- FAQs Concerning Changes to the State’s Retiree Prescription Drug Coverage
It is especially important to note that:
“Ending State service on or before December 31, 2019 and retiring on or before January 1, 2020 will impact only what new program you qualify for; if the State prevails in Fitch v. State of Maryland you still will have to enroll in a prescription drug benefit plan under Medicare in order to have prescription drug coverage. Ending State service on or before December 31, 2019 and retiring on or before January 1, 2020 does NOT mean that you get to keep the current retiree prescription drug plan.“
If you are considering retirement on December 1 or January 1, please schedule to meet with TU Retirement Coordinator Yore Awodipe at least six weeks before your effective retirement date.
