TU’s English Language Center Earns Prestigious 5-Year Accreditation

THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTER EARNS PRESTIGIOUS 5-YEAR ACCREDITATION – AGAIN TOWSON UNIVERSITY RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Fresh from its recognition as the 197th Best College by the U.S. News and World Report, Towson University’s English Language Center has also received recognition for its academic excellence.

For the first time in its 34-year history, The English Language Center has earned a national 5-year accreditation from the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA).

CEA, designated by the U.S. Secretary of Education as the foremost accrediting agency for English language programs and institutions in the U.S., recognizes the center’s excellence based on 44 stringent requirements supported by a 140-page “self-study” report demonstrating compliance with the highest national and international standards.

As part of the 2-year certification process, the ELC honed its mission statement, created new faculty and student guides, overhauled the curriculum, and developed  a comprehensive administrative policy and procedure manual. The ELC also designated full-time faculty as coordinators of student assessment and achievement, curriculum, and advising.

The accreditation was awarded after an extensive three-day site visit to the English Language Center, involving interviews with all staff and faculty at the ELC, members of the IIE office, observation of our classes, interviews with students, and an exhaustive inspection of our curriculum and policy and procedure documents.

Thanks to the rigor and dedicated efforts of our faculty and the support and guidance from the staff of the International Initiatives department, Towson University’s ELC stands shoulder to shoulder with the best intensive English language programs in the U.S.
