Dissertation Title: Text-only Browser Based on Bare Machine Computing

Abstract: Operating systems or kernels assist in running conventional applications. Bare machine computing (BMC) applications run on bare machines without using an operating system or a kernel. BMC applications are thus independent of any execution platform promoting longevity and reducing obsolescence.
This dissertation presents Text-only bare PC browser with out security and with security. Today, it is essential to add security to the bare PC browsers as most of the servers only support secure communication. Most commonly used security in the Web servers is based on a transport layer protocol (TLS). We notice that the TLS protocol versions are changing rapidly from 1.0 to 1.3, however most of the servers still support 1.1 version for now. This research shows how to integrate TLS 1.1 protocol to a Text-only bare PC browser. We describe internal details of implementing this protocol on a bare PC with no OS or kernel running in the system. The research will describe the design issues in implementing a lean version of TLS. We also present some actual connection traces in the paper to demonstrate the feasibility of this browser on a bare PC Webserver with 64 byte keys.
