External email tagging starts today
Starting today, faculty and staff will notice this line of text, or a tag, at the top of Outlook emails received from external (non-TU) senders:
[EXTERNAL]
Most phishing attacks come from external sources, and this tag is intended to remind faculty and staff to use caution when looking at external emails. This tag will be viewable on desktops and mobile devices. Lack of the tag doesn’t mean the email is safe, just as seeing the tag doesn’t mean it’s safe.
As with other university information security measures, such as DUO Multi-Factor Authentication, external email tagging for TU Outlook accounts is not optional. No actions or special training required. If you have questions, please contact OIS@towson.edu
