Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry Research Impact Awards
The Undergraduate Research and Creative Inquiry (URCI) committee is pleased to announce that the applications for Research Impact Awards will be opened on or around September 1. These grants are open to full-time undergraduate students in all majors.
Last year, 15 grants for $1,000 each were given through a competitive process. More than 10 additional projects were funded at $500 level as a part of the same award process. The committee expects that the level of funding for the coming application cycle will allow for a similar number of awards. The application will require students to provide:
- project description and methodology
- project significance to the discipline
- specific project objectives and timeline for completion throughout the 2019-2020 academic year
- description of how completing the project fits in the student’s personal and professional goals
- current resume and letter of support from the faculty mentor
Note that the most competitive grant applications often come from ideas generated in the summer prior to the application process. Thus, we encourage faculty to contact potential students over the summer to start developing ideas. For questions, feel free to contact the URCI Committee Co-chairs, Dr. Alexei Kolesnikov and Dr. Nicholas Knuth.
Travel grants are awarded through a separate process and will also continue, with an increase in the award amounts.
