Downtime info for OTS’ Memorial Day weekend maintenance window: most computing systems unavailable
To ensure the long-term reliability of university online systems, the Office of Technology Services (OTS) will perform scheduled mandatory maintenance on the Cook Data Center. The maintenance window is planned for 8 p.m. on Friday, May 24 through 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 26. Due to the nature of the work, there is potential for the outage to extend into Monday, May 27 (the Memorial Day holiday) but it’s not anticipated.
What’s happening
All UPS (Uninterrupted Power Source) equipment in the Cook Data Center has reached the end of life, and needs to be replaced in order to support university systems.
What to expect
Because equipment in the data center must be powered off, most computing services will be unavailable. The following services will be available during the maintenance window:
- Blackboard
- Towson Online Services/PeopleSoft Campus Solutions
- Office 365
- OneDrive
- Faculty/staff and student email
- Telephones and voicemail
- Campus wired and wireless networks
- Virtual Workspace
If you are planning to conduct business that uses any university online system over the holiday weekend, please be aware of the maintenance window. OTS has worked with campus groups in advance to identify critical services, and those systems will be unaffected. Questions or concerns about this specific maintenance can be sent to datacenteroutage@towson.edu.
When maintenance is complete, posts will be made to the OTS Alerts website http://alerts.towson.edu and twitter@OTSAlerts.
As a reminder, the Office of Technology Services’ regular maintenance window is every Sunday from 6 a.m. until noon. Faculty and users are advised to keep this maintenance window in mind when planning events, assignments and deadlines.
