Important News about Free and Low-Cost Course Materials

TU has been working to reduce costs for students. Beginning with fall 2022 classes, students may, in some cases, have the option to choose a course section that uses course material designations of FREE (zero cost to students) or LOW COST (costs to students do not exceed $50).

Some course sections that are designated as free or low cost—in terms of materials—may require course fees. It is important that you, as students, understand the distinction between course materials and course fees. Course materials are tied to a particular course section and include textbooks, lab books, workbooks, or any other required materials as well as software. On the other hand, fees are monetary costs that are always designated as fees, always apply to every section of a course, and cover things like instructional supplies and equipment.
