July TUSS News for Staff

The Towson University Staff Senate (TUSS) is the advocate body for all university staff employees. All TU staff are general members of the senate and are encouraged to attend meetings. Meeting agendas and minutes are posted to TUSS SharePoint. 

Highlights from the recent TUSS Meeting: 

  • STRATUS: Went live successfully. Reach out with any issues and questions through the channels provided by the team. Schedule 1:1 time if needed. More information can be found at https://www.towson.edu/stratus. 
  • Budget: TU is already working on budget planning for FY24. There is a capital budget hearing soon – TU administrators will continue to advocate for approved campus project funding. 
  • TechHelp: The new TechHelp interface has launched. More information can be found at https://www.towson.edu/techhelp 
  • Leadership changes: David Vanko has retired as the dean of Fisher College of Science and Mathematics – Congratulations! A national search for dean of FCSM will occur in the fall, and the search committee is being developed now. Kevin Petersen, AVP of Facilities, has announced his retirement – Congratulations! There will be a search for this position as well. 
  • Pay changes: COLA and merit increases were processed as starting July 1 and should be reflected in upcoming paychecks. 
  • TUSS Events and Engagement Committee: This committee is open to all staff. If you’re interested in joining, reach out to tuss@towson.edu.

Senator Spotlight:

This month features At-Large Non-Exempt Senator Hassan Sanda, who works in the Parking and Transportation Services unit. 

How long have you worked at TU?
15 years 

What is your department and what does your position entail?
My department is Parking and Transportation. My position as a Transportation Lead entails training and development of new Towson University drivers; I am also a Transportation Liaison for the BTU (Baltimore Towson University) Partnership. 

What do you enjoy the most about your job?
Interacting with various departments and colleagues in our department, and also those on the BTU team. 

What is your favorite place to eat on or around campus?
West Village Commons, because of the variety of foods provided. 

What do you do to relax?
I enjoy walking, watching Western movies and world music. 

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I am twin. 

If you could have any one skill or talent that you don’t already have, what would it be?
Fly an airplane as a pilot. 

What’s the proudest moment of your life?
When my youngest son became a pilot. 

Why did you decide to get involved with the TUSS?
My desire to serve and contribute in a capacity that is outside of my job assignment. 

Describe what you have learned (or hope to learn) during your time in TUSS?
I have learned to communicate and interact with folks from all walks of life and educational backgrounds.
