Call for Applications for the Director of Competitive Fellowships and Awards

Towson University encourages and supports students seeking to advance their educational and career goals through highly competitive fellowships and awards available nationally and globally.  The Director of Competitive Fellowships and Awards (CFA) works collaboratively across the campus to oversee these efforts at TU.

Position Description

Specifically, the CFA Director coordinates Towson University’s efforts to recruit, support and mentor students in obtaining nationally competitive scholarships and awards including, but not limited to, the Fulbright, Gaither, Gilman, Goldwater, Rhodes, and Truman Scholarships.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Providing support for students in identifying and applying for competitive fellowships and awards including workshops, practice interviews, and sample applications;
  • Chairing/co-chairing TU CFA standing committees;
  • Partnering across campus to recruit and mentor students to successfully apply for award opportunities. Partners include, but are not limited to, faculty, staff and deans in all colleges and the following offices: alumni engagement; military and veterans affairs, study abroad, civic engagement, admissions, BTU, undergraduate research; university marketing and communications);
  • Identifying and supporting students in the application of additional competitive awards most relevant to TU students;
  • Ensuring the marketing of CFA to prospective students, current students, and alumni;
  • Recruiting faculty and staff to assist in the mentoring and support of students applying for competitive fellowships and awards;
  • Overseeing the maintenance of the CFA website;
  • Maintaining fellowship/award application records;
  • Submitting annual reports on all CFA activity.

The CFA Director shall be a tenured TU faculty member or permanent faculty librarian. For faculty, the position shall be a 0.50 FTE position with a reduced teaching load during the fall and spring semesters and a summer stipend. For faculty librarians, the position shall be a 12-month 0.50 FTE appointment.  Approval by the relevant college/library dean and department chair are required. Reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, the incoming CFA director shall assume duties in January 2022.
